This is simply survival basics & protection from the elements. It starts with having warm clothing if it is cold out (below 60 degrees F); and -rain repellent clothing if it's wet out. After that, you need shelter. This would be a roof over your head - whether it's a building, shed or a tarp (keep this in your emergency kit). Hypothermia will kill you faster than lack of water or food. If you're in the desert - then shelter is your first on the list to get out of the sun.
Typically, the average person can expect survival without water for 3 days - the basics depend upon exertion and climate. Some have made it past 8 days. We have ideas, emergency kits and photos of water storage on our site.
This is a tough one to answer - but many articles cite survival with no food (depending upon your BMI, exertion & health) from 8 to 40 days. Stock up.
Don't be the first to be eaten by zombies is a quote that I coined years ago. If lack of water doesn't kill you in a couple days - a thief with malicious intent could kill you the first day. So, if you have something someone else wants (could be anything - could be they just want you) - then you better have a way to defend yourself or conceal yourself.
Anything you do to address the above concerns is where you start!
